Waverley provided a fully customized UI and completely redesigned iOS client applications, integrated with the client’s cloud-based system for browsing and streaming movies and shows. Waverley continues to update the product.
(Fanhattan, Inc.) was founded in 2010 and is based in San Carlos, California. Their main aim is to provide online digital media entertainment services. They integrate various content sources around each piece of entertainment, such as reviews, ratings, trailers, movie tickets, fan gear, actor and actress bios, crew bios, celebrity stats, and soundtracks. By July 2011 Fanhattan introduced an iPad application aimed to be every tablet owners’ central hub for deep-diving into Hollywood content. On May 30th 2013 Fanhattan introduced its own set-top box, named Fan TV. Fan TV came with a buttonless remote control that basically functioned like a trackpad. The device also directly integrated with live TV feeds from paid TV operators, combining live television and streaming services through the same interface. In October 2014, Fan TV got acquired by Rovi (a provider of entertainment metadata and TV guide software).
Fan TV had an iPhone app, that was basically a smaller version of Fan TV’s iPad application. They realized the experience their users desired for iPhone was not playback, but rather content discovery. Fan TV contacted Waverley Software to develop completely redesigned native iPhone client applications, integrated with their cloud-based system. By March 2015 the new, completely redesigned iPhone app had been available on App Store.
Working with Fan TV’s product management and internal engineering staff we gained a thorough understanding of their media services platform and then performed the redesign and engineering of a completely new iPhone app.
Fan TV application allows browsing over one million movies and shows, finding where to watch them across live TV and over 50 premium streaming services. It offers live TV discovery with the revolutionary guide, Fan Voice, the interactive voice search for finding movies and shows faster. iPhone users can now enjoy mobile television and video on demand.
All project work was done using Agile methodology with transparent progress tracking. The team interacted directly with product owners during daily stand-ups. Daily status reports were delivered according to the mutually-created schedule. Waverley Software engineers were invited to work onsite to share their best expertise with the client. Fan TV actively participated in the design, testing, and development of their mobile applications.
Waverley Software continues to work on new features for both iPhone/iPad applications. Close cooperation with developers of the server-side app at Fan TV allows to release a new client app version with the extended set of features every six months. As a result, the number of users who prefer Fan TV solution continuously grows.
